At last night’s Council meeting—which dragged on for over three and a half hours—we witnessed yet another display of chaos, disrespect, and a complete lack of decorum in the chamber. Security had to escort a councillor out, Code of Conduct violations dominated the table, and constant disruptions derailed the focus.
It is exhausting to watch. Our community deserves leadership that acts with integrity, respects the table, and actually puts the work of the people first.
While the noise took center stage, critical decisions affecting Ward 1 were on the floor—and our neighborhood needs proactive oversight, not distraction:
- Construction Relief: Council approved a motion directing staff to explore provincial and federal funding support for local businesses impacted by ongoing construction on Quaker Road, West Main, and Ontario Road. Our small businesses shouldn't have to carry the burden of long-term infrastructure projects alone.
- Forks Rd & Elm St Safety: A motion passed to install red flashing beacons atop the stop signs to tackle speeding and collision concerns. Safe roads and protected neighborhoods must remain a priority.
- Cooks Mills & Capital Reviews: Capital project updates covered ongoing work in our rural corners, including Matthews Road and the Cooks Mills cricket pitch project, along with $5.4M in city-wide capital funds being closed out and returned to reserves.
- Protecting Infrastructure & Green Space: Decisions were passed on stormwater facility signage and subdivision asset management—reminders that as growth happens, infrastructure standards and environmental care must come before development, not as an afterthought.
We cannot afford to let municipal governance be defined by hostility and personal drama. Ward 1 residents work hard, care deeply about our neighborhoods, and deserve representatives who show up ready to build a transparent, respectful, and accountable local government.
It’s time to restore professionalism to Council and get back to working for you.
